This unit was designed to test the hinge and striker of up to two car doors simultaneously through many cycles at elevated and reduced temperatures. Basically, the system opens and closes the door latch and the door via pneumatic cylinders. Slamming can be done with various window positions during the test. The window position can be up, down, half-way, or any combination of these via the software in the tester. The most important feature of the system is the ability of the user to adjust the "slam" of the door to accurately reproduce the slam of the same door on an actual car. This is accomplished by adjusting the air pressure in the tires on the door fixture, the speed of door closure, the load on the bottom of the cart, and by positioning door seal material appropriately. The profile of the slam is displayed on the monitor of the P.C. used to control the system as acceleration, velocity, and displacement of the door during the last few inches of slam. |
