PC Based IFD Tester
The PC Based IFD Tester is an Indentation Force Deflection or Indentation Load Deflection (ILD) tester controlled by a PC. This tester is capable of testing foam in three modes.
Foam ILD (or IFD) tests – Specified Deflection mode from ASTM D3574 at 25% and 65% compression. The initial thickness value of the sample must be entered, and the rest of the test is automatic.
Foam ILD (or IFD) tests – Specified Force mode from ASTM D3574. Again, the test is automatically done after setting the initial thickness value of the sample
Load VS. Deflection curve – In this mode, the machine will compress a foam sample at a constant rate of speed over a specified travel distance. For this test, you must enter the initial foam thickness and the required final thickness, and set an arbitrary speed value. This test is often used to find the linearity of compression on foam samples.
For all three tests, data is saved (with allowable comments) to a .csv file that can be downloaded to any spreadsheet (such as Excel) for detailed analysis.
This tester has the option to be used as a tensile testing device as specified by ASTM D3574 (Test E). The optional package includes a load cell, manual sample grips and the software to run the test. Simply interchange the foam indentor with the 100 lb. load cell (with a manual sample grip attached), and installing the lower manual sample grip on the table bed. This allows a great deal of flexibility for the unit and also results in lower
costs for the customer by not having to invest in a separate tensile test device.
